Looking at chemicals
In Looking at Chemicals, film material is used as a trajectory to contemplate society’s large structures’ mechanisms – from the perspective of the chemical

Installation. Solo. Nordic Anthology series. Fotogalleriet, Oslo.

The extensive use of cellulose acetate is considered one of the biggest inventions of the 20th Century: ‘plastic became fantastic’. In Looking at Chemicals, film material is used as a trajectory to contemplate society’s large structures’ mechanisms – from the perspective of the chemical. At times, the material looks like a fossil, as a reminder of its fragility and origin. The exhibition at Fotogalleriet’s NORDIC ANTHOLOGY project space aims to make explicit a close interaction between the film’s material, production, physicality and its personal and social perception. The works are installed in a shifting dramaturgy of displays – inherently linked – by using both the inside of the gallery and its outside street view, thus offering different platforms for experience.

A very special thanks is herewith directed to David Johan, my grandfather, whom at an early age developed interests in chemistry, technology and communism.
